Add the new Facebook “Like” Button Plugin on your WordPress Blog

by AJ on April 21, 2010

UPDATE: Use this new version instead

Add the new Facebook “Like” Button Plugin on your WordPress Blog. Download it here.

1) Download the “” file
2) Extract and upload `facebook-like-widget.php` to the `/wp-content/plugins/` directory
3) Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
4) That’s it!

It should look like this

I’ve given the embed a style ID so you can target it in CSS. The id is “facebook_like”.

If you’ve installed it on your blog, please post your URL in the comments below. Thanks.

UPDATE: You can now download this directly @ WordPress.

Why will this plugin not display on Chrome browsers? It appears in IE and Safari… not Chrome. ANy thoughts?

Hi, I love this button. Unfortunately, I had to do a reinstall and all my count numbers got reset. Sad face.

I’d like to just have the LIKE feature, but take away the count – no like count and no text regarding the number of likes. Is there a way for me to access the code to make this edit?

Thanks so much!

I have had this plugin installed for a number of months. No issues… until this afternoon. I noted it is now stating “Sorry, invalid request” on all my pages.

I came here to see if anyone else was having the same trouble and noted that this website, using the same plugin, is showing the same issue.

I hope it will be resolved soon ;)

Why on earth is this called a widget when it is clearly not?
I just wasted time thinking I had a problem with my wordpress, all because I downloaded something I though was a “Widget” which did not produce a widget for me to use.

First of all, thanks for developing this plug-in. Makes it simple for newbies like myself to have the type of blog I want!

However, I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong, but after installing this (seems simple enough!) I don’t see any attributes on my posts.

Can you tell me what’s going wrong?

by Heidi on November 7, 2011 at 8:23 AM. Reply #

This is NOT a widget, and you shouldn’t call it one.

Help! I activated this Plugin, and I don’t see it anywhere. It doen’t show up in my widgets–I don’t see it anywhere. The only thing I can do is activate and deactivate the plugin.

I would really like to use it. How do I get it to actually show up on my page?

Thanks for this wonderful plugin: Simple and to the point!

I have two queries:

1) My WordPress blog is in French. Any chance of having localized versions for the button in a future version?

2) Also, is there any possibility to get a “share” button as well? So far, I haven’t seen a single widget that does both: “I like” and “Share”.

I added the facebook like button to my website. The only problem I have is that there is so much space left between the facebook button and my post text. It doesn’t matter where I put it…top or bottom…it leaves about and 1 1/2 of space. Looks weird. Still trying to fix that. Someone mentioned, I think, coping the facebook code instead. Not sure how to do that either. Any help is helpful.

I like this plugin, but I have a problem with it. I want to use the feature to send to a friend, but when I position it at the bottom of the page (where I want it), the box with the send buttons gets cut off when extended. So no message can be sent. To compensate, I must make the height of the area greater, but this makes a big white gap that I don’t want.
What can I do?

did not work on my site

could not change the size of the like button

(I could change the stats on the setting menu, but they would not VISUALLY take effect. What did happen, though, is that the comments would be pushed several inches down as though an invisible Like button had been created, displacing everything, but without the button size change being usable.)

This was SO easy to install. Kept having parse errors when I tried using other ones.
I would like the Like Button option to appear at the top of the post instead of the bottom. What’s the easiest way to do that? If “add it to css” is the answer, could you be a little more specific with the code and placement, please. I follow instructions well but I’m not a coder.
BTW, I use it on my other site, too.
