Today, I transferred a domain away from Godaddy. Not because they’re not good, but because I wanted to consolidate my domains in one location.

Here’s how I did it:

1) Unlock your domain at GoDaddy

2) Go to your preferred domain registrar, initiate the transfer. Make sure your domain name is transferrable (see #1)

3) After you have paid for the transfer, your preferred domain registrar will ask you to enter an Authorization Code (sometimes called as EPP or transfer secret info/code), on GoDaddy, you’ll find it here. Add support@godaddy.com to your address book and/or whitelist. The email will come from it.

4) Once you get the authorization code, enter it on your preferred registrar. The transfer will now continue.

5) GoDaddy will ask you to authorize the transfer. Login to your account and go to “Domains” >> “Pending Transfers” >> select the domain

6) On the pending transfers list, click the domain you are transferring

7) You will see a screen like the one below. Click the “Accept/Decline” button

7) A overlay window will popup and just select “Accept” and click “OK”. And that should be it.

You should receive 2 emails from GoDaddy confirming the transfer.

That’s it. I made this post because I found that domain transfers are somehow one of the most challenging tasks in owning a domain. And I do hope that this post outlines how to do it away from GoDaddy.

I thought offering customers “Unlimited” hosting is a sign of good things to come.
There is also something wrong in this billing. Read the part “…and your credit card will be charged the annual fee of 0″. Yes, you are reading it right. Zero as in zilch, nada, none. Does that mean I will not pay for this year’s renewal?

Desperate times ahead for at Yahoo I guess.

Netfirms is still $5.95! I hope it’s easy to transfer my domains.

–aj

NOTE: *Domain .com, .net and .org sale pricing at Netfirms is $5.95 for first year. Domain will renew at $9.95 per year thereafter.

Most website owners and webmasters wonder if the site they’re managing is on Google. We often search our domain, our company name, or even our own name and some specific keywords to see if the website we’ve done a few days back has been crawled and placed on the massive index of Google.

Yes, most SEO (Search Engine Optimization) professionals already know these things. However, for the newbies and for the rest of us, here’s a quick tutorial to know if your site’s status is in the Google index or not.

It’s a basic 2-step process to be in the know. But, you can further move forward enhancing your SEO efforts like verifying your domain, adding a sitemap, getting to know your search rank, top keywords search for a specific time, etc. at the Google Webmaster Tools.

Let’s start. Here’s how:

1) Go to https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/sitestatus

2) Enter your domain on the input box (ex. http://www.mployd.com). Click on the “Next” button

Now, if your website is in the Google index, you should be able to see this notification

And you will be asked if you want to go and manage your website at the Google Webmaster Tool

If your website isn’t listed yet on the Google index, you should see something like this

Google will also suggest that you submit a Sitemap on their Google Webmaster Tools (which will eventually help your rankings on the Google’s search engine results).

Pretty simple huh? Go and check your website now if it’s listed and I hope it is.

Cheers!

–aj

It was reported long ago that this Javascript trick does not work anymore. Well, just for heck of it, I tried it using Safari 3 and the easter egg for showing more @live email domains still works.

Here’s how:

Open up your Safari 3 browser on your Mac (haven’t tested on Windows)

Visit this link http://get.live.com/getlive/overview

Click the “Sign Up” button

On the Address Bar, enter this Javascript code:

javascript:function r(q){} function s(q){e[q] = new Option(a[q],a[q])}; r(e = document.getElementById(‘idomain’).options);r(d=’live.’);r(a = new Array(d+’com’,d+’com.au’,d+’be’,d+’ca’,d+’co.uk’,d+’de’,d+’fr’,d+’it’,d+’nl’)); for (i=0;i<a.length;i++){ s(i ) }alert(‘Success – additional domains added!’);

Press ENTER.

You should now see the confirmation alert that you have successfully added additional domains (see below):

Click OK and off you go. You should now see the available domains for you to choose from.

Currently the available domains are:

Live.com

Live.com.au

Live.be

Live.ca

Live.co.uk

Live.de

Live.fr

Live.it

Live.nl

Pretty cool huh? ;)

Enjoy!

Network Solutions front running domains? According to sources, it seems that domains that you search at NetworkSolutions.com (NSI) are being purchased by the them, thereby preventing you or any registrant from purchasing it at any other registrar other than NSI.

This particular move seems to be the most unethical way of doing business over domains. Worst than blackhat SEO in my book.

BlogPerfume just launced Feed Analysis version 1.1. This handy tool is a very useful addition to your blog analytics.

In their own words:

By the use of Feed Analysis, the number of subscribers for each month is neatly shown on the column chart. You can also view the number of subscribers, hits, views and clicks for every single day from the line chart. The best/worst day of the week is also available which is displayed on the pie chart. And also, Feed Analysis can give you an estimated value for your blog / site according to the number of your subscribers.

I’ve just been granted access to the preview version and newly re-designed delicious – a social bookmarking website.

What can I say? Well, for one the design is simple yet uber cool. Awesome, for a lack of a better word. Take a peek below. One notable thing is that they didn’t use the domain del.icio.us on this one and opted for an easy-to-remember domain name, delicious.com.

The preview can be found at http://preview.delicious.com and I think it’s only open for select power users.

So, what’s new?

1) Navigation
o New organization
o Fast contextual search
o Contextual sub menus

2) Tag Bar
o Tag navigation
o Autocomplete
o Sorting

3) Bookmarks
o New layout
o Blue boxes
o Details page

4) Sidebar
o Top 10 tags
o New bundles
o Private nicknames

5) Action Box
o Contextual actions
o Tag descriptions
o Bulk edit

That’s everything you need to have in a social bookmarking application. I couldn’t think of anything else that they can add at this time (maybe stats on the specific site? Ok, I’m asking too much).

Anyways, kudos to the delicious team. Love it!
